Display the Officers List during battle. Press X on one of the opposing officers. Then, rapidly press Circle, before the next screen appears. There is a risk that this will not work if you are the attacker.

Champion Officer Class
In the Create-an-Officer Mode there are only 7 classes. There is a hidden eighth class called Champion. The Champion class has base stats of 95 for all abilities and it is possible to max out the stats at 100 for all of the abilities. To make this class available, first create 29 officers in this mode. Then begin to make a 30th officer. When you are asked for what class officer number 30 should be the Champion Class is available. The Champion Class is available for officer number 30 only.

Troop Type Selection
When selecting a troop type push Select three times, you can get more than the usual cities troop types. The game is easier with Armored Horsemen drafted out of every city.
