This is the most beautiful game of all time…..FACT!!!!
The first thing I noticed when I played Ico was the lack of music/speech, which you normally expect to find in any of today's current games. This isn't a bad thing, far from it, in fact it adds to the overall atmosphere of the game.
The next thing I noticed was just how gorgeous this game really is!! The architecture is just so wonderful you wish you were there yourself. The sunlight is lovely you can actually feel the warmth from it. The water ripples and flows just like the real thing. The scale and depth of the overall landscape is excellent!
The gameplay is top-notch too, thanks to the easy control system and the puzzles are cleverly thought out and a joy to complete. Some gamers might find Ico a little slow or boring if they're used with such games like The Need For Speed or James Bond 007, for me personally Ico makes a welcome and much needed change. Having said this there are quite a few fighting moments where you can be fighting 7 or 8 shadow monsters at the same time, just with a wooden stick as your weapon.
The whole plot to the game is to escort a little girl away from the dark forces of evil, the excellent thing about this is that it makes for really innovative gameplay and thinking. You have to help her up ledges, across jumps, etc. and if you leave her behind the shadow monsters will take her and then it's game over!
Also, towards the end of the game, Ico has the most moving movie sequence in the history of games (probably)……there was a tear in my eye!!
The only little criticism I have about Ico is the length of the whole game. The first time I completed it was in about 9 hours, the second time was in about 5.
If you like your games easy-paced and relaxing then I highly recommend this.
