Okami. What does this word make you think of? For most people, the answer is japanese....and they'd be right. Okami is the PS2's super japanese answer to zelda....and it really is mega japanese. From the way the world thrives with color and beauty, to the mythical story with a wordless hero (Much like mario or link who both never speak in their games.), and beautiful and large world....this game has alot of content to offer. There are a bunch of sidequests that are worthwhile distractions from the main quest that get you "praise points" (Fancy word for "experience points".) that allow you to upgrade levels of your character. There's your life, ink power, money bag,and astral pouch (It revives you when you die). I really didn't upgrade the astral pouch once the entire game because I only died....3 times the whole game. And that brings me to the only minor flaw of the game:just like kingdom hearts, it's too easy. That isn't neccesarily a bad thing (Better for younger people, so everyone can play it.)...I just think clover and capcom should have spent a little extra time doing a few different difficulties (Like kingdom hearts.). And about KH, this game has a whole bunch of similarities to it. The RPG elements, the almost exactly same combat, the kid friendly looks with a darker side to it, and story with very crazy characters...I can't help but make comparisons between the two. The main character is cool and I wouldn't mind playing a few games with the same two people...but that strange, perverted(Yes,perverted),little creature that rides around on your back...it reminded me SOOOOO much of navi from zelda:OOT. It never shuts up, and, although it may make a few good laughs here and there, it's more annoying than funny. Fighting in the game is fun for the first 20 hours....then it gets really repetitive. From there on, you get the most fighting in the game and after about 2 more hours, you find more challenging enemies and stuff....so it never really gets too bad....except for that 2-3 hours where,if you have a decent weapon, you can beat every battle in about 10-30 seconds. Many people will think this is basically a wind waker clone with a wolf....well, I say it's alot lie that....but with a better sense of....everything. AND NO SAILING! That my friends, is how this truly exceeds over WW. The dungeons are equally as well crafted as the rest of the game and require a lot of thought in a few of the puzzles. But the really unique part of this game is the brush drawing techniques. There are so many ways to use these to your advantage, it isn't even funny. Every enemy has a cirtain weakness to a brush technique that you have to experiment with and then exploit to kill them. There are many games out there today that try to manipulate things like this and completely fail. This is one of the games that exceeds over all other games of it's genre and make your standards change. People, buy this game and experience possibly the best game of '06. There are only one of these every few years....take advantage of this before it's rare like rez or any of those other obscure games. If you want something unique and still fun as heck, pick this up now. 10/10 Amazing.
