I really have no idea how Aerobiz got so ignored and shunned. Or especially Supersonic. It's THE best tycoon-style game I've ever played. You play a CEO of an airline; you go ahead and name it whatever or you can accept the name picked for you by virtue of your chosen city. For example, one European city, I forget which, wants to name itself "Strudel". Yea, that's a name for an airline. Let's give the passengers an idea of what they'll resemble if we crash!
In any case, there are loads and loads of cities to fly to, 32 of which can be chosen among for your home base. This'll determine your starting capital and cities that it would be a good idea to fly to as well, so London, Paris, New York and Tokyo are good choices. (Yea. I know. You'd think Chicago and Atlanta would have the most cash, but they're somewhere in the middle.) Your objective is to get flights out to all corners of the globe within 20 years of gametime. You'll also need to beat up on the 3 airlies that serve as opponents as well. And don't forget to turn a profit. You'll fly, slap yourself when you realize you need to buy slots (read: get room for yourself in the hangars) at the airport you're flying to first, buy hotels, buy planes, wet yourself when one of said planes smacks into an Alp, react to wars and Olympics, and a bunch of other stuff.
The opponents are smart: they will attempt to beat you, but they need to take care of themselves first. On occasion somebody will go belly-up. The whole experience is just plain fun. The main gripe is that there are only a couple time frames to work with. I probably would have put everything one one big timeline, let the player pick the starting year, and use the 20 years after that. Also there's no option to just forget about the timeline. It's minor, but it keeps the game from perfection. But it's still a 4... out of 5.
