Halo 2 may be for the Xbox what Half-Life 2 is for the PC. But the problem arises if you would be so bold as to compare those two games on their own merits. In that scenario Halo 2 does not hold its own, as it loses out in graphics, physics, driveable vehicles, weapons, characters and overall technology. It may be an unfair comparison, but it's a good way of putting Halo 2 in perspective to see what it really is, behind the massive Microsoft hype machine. I am one of those people who was never very impressed with the original Halo either, I will admit that, but after seeing Halo 2 and completing it within 15 hours of game time, it is difficult not to be disappointed. The original Halo may not have impressed me much, but at least it held promise of a franchise that could expand. Halo 2 also looked like it could be what I had been waiting for, until a couple of levels into the game, when it turned into the same monotonous fragfest the original game introduced. A great game should have more varied enemies, more varied surroundings, a longer main campaign and a lot more original story than Halo 2 was ever able to display.
