Half-Life 2 is a great game, no doubt about it. It contains epic battle scenes, nerve wrecking horror moments, fast and furious driving sequences, brain teasing puzzle solving, frenetic action moments and some amazing level design, fantastic futuristic settings and the best in-game characters ever to grace a computer screen. It is also one of the few games out there that uses real life physics as part of the gameplay instead of just another gimmick. Everything about this game is so polished and well thought out, it really stands a crowbar above the competition. Unfortunately, behind all the fancy technology and flawless presentation, lurks just another first person shooter. No matter how much eye candy that's being thrown your way, this harsh reality is impossible to deny after the twentieth level of shooting the same headcrabs and black dressed soldiers. Half-Life 2 just isn't as revolutionary as Half-Life was when it arrived in 1998, but it's still an awesome game in its own rights.
