Deus Ex: Invisible War shows that sequels can be every bit as good as the original.
Set over approximately 2 decades after the first game, DX: Invisible War gives you control of Alex D, a clone of JC Denton whom you controlled in DX: The Conspiracy.  You work for Tarsus, a school organization with ties to many groups.  These other groups comprise various factions seeking global control after the Great Collapse brought on by the conclusion to the first game.  These factions all have distinctly different agendas and beliefs and you must decide which group's path to follow.
The decision on who to follow will greatly change the progress of the story as well as the ending (of which there are 4) that you will see.  These warring factions give you even more of a overlapping story than in the first game and your choices lead to opportunities not available otherwise.
One of the main complaints of DX 1 were the graphics which seemed outdated.  With DX:IW, this problem has been addressed with a complete overall of the graphics to a superior system full of excellent lighting as well as the ability to manipulate most of the entire environment.  Not surprisingly (to those who played the first game) the plot is top notch.
Problems do come to mind however.  The ammo system from the first game is gone and now, you no longer have to worry about picking up ammo types for each weapon you have.
The game also is not as lengthy as the first, not does it seem to have as much of the challenge, partly due to the fact you always have plenty of ammo.
The biomod system from "The Conspiracy" has been overhauled and the new system is not as well thought out.  In the first game, you make a decision about biomods you want and that is it. You could not go back and change the decision.  This game lets you change the abilties you have on the fly and gives you very little motivation to stay with your biomods.
Another complaint is the fact that the skill point system from the first game is gone.  This feature was created brilliantly in the first Deus Ex and it would have been welcomed here.
But despite these complaints, I recommend that anyone who is looking for an FPS (with some RPG elements)that makes you think, should buy this game.  The story is simply the best that any FPS has to offer and that alone is a reason to purchase this amazing game.
