Super Metroid takes the ideas from the Game Boy and NES titles and expands on every single one of them. The graphics are phenomenal. On the surface, you can see rain fall and splatter on the ground, in Norfair, the background has a way effect to convey the heat. Each area perfectly blends into the next. The key to any Metroid game is obtaining new items and going back to older areas to use the new items to locate new areas to explore. This Metroid staple is at its best in Super Metroid. Each boss requires some timed movements and attacks to survive leading to an amazingly written final battle. Rarely does it feel annoying going back to old places and that is the reason why I recommend the game. The difficulty is normal with no real challenges until Norfair. The even difficulty ensure that you are never trapped in a situation where you can't deal. The controls are spot on. Any errors resulting in damage are entirely at the player's fault as Samus can stop instantly even when she's speedboosting. The well hidden energy tanks and missiles will extend the game's life for anyone looking for a classic example of sidescrolling gaming, they simply must own this game.
