Having just finished Bloodrayne 2 for xbox, I come to review this game. I played it only on PC, the very day it was released. But I just replayed it this week so its all fresh in my head.
The gameplay is much more simple than BR2. But its still fun because of the ability to cut your enemies to pieces... one piece at at time! The grappling hook is just for grabbing people into you for feeding. Its just a funny thing they added, but they made it have a more useful perpose in BR2. The coolest thing is how high you can jump. There are a few frustrating parts near the end of the game when you have to jump up on stuff actually.
I didn't really thing the graphics were that good until I got a stronger video card and could run it in Direct3d at 1600x1200 with some filtering added onto that. If you can get it running smoothly at that, things look as good as Bloodrayne 2 (in some cases). She almost runs too fast though, they slowed her running speed down a bit in BR2, and it seems better now. Hitting bad guys builds rage, and you use it to kill stuff fast and easy.
In 8-9 hours you could finish this game probably. But any longer and you would be bored. Especially since the last few levels are really boring and out of place. You can usually tell when they add pointless length, and they did added some really long crap near the end which really sucked. Many of the boss fights were much more straight forward compared to BR2. Very strangely, the boss in the first level is one of the hardest... and will take a second try at least to figure out what to do (cut the things legs off). I admit, I cheated on the last and final boss. I tried a bunch of times and just gave up. I ran out of guns and health each time... they made the last boss a crappy battle. But at that point, you just want the game to end anyways.
The control was fast and smooth on PC, I really wouldn't want to have to do some of the jumping parts on a console, they seemed to be a little too picky at points. Plus the high res of PC really addes life to this game.
Savepoints are sometimes a little too rare at times. I hate to redue whole levels because of one mistake. Load times are extremely fast. And the levels are fairly huge too. About the same size as Bloodrayne 2 it seemed.
If you get some conversion tools off some forums you can make or edit your own skins. This is why I really liked the games graphics. I edited some of the skins and added some amazing reflections. To the point of making it look almost too good to believe. Anyways, its a thing to look into.
Last but not least. The size of Rayne's rack. It's actually realistic looking. Theres a juggy cheat that makes them bigger. Her chest did grow in Bloodrayne 2. But thats some 65 years, so theres bound to be some growth, right? I would imagine in Bloodrayne 3 that she will have some lower back problems. But I'm for that.
