I'm as of this moment, I am quitting playing Gothic. I'm 10 hours or so into the game, and I just can't stand it any more. This has to be the worst controls I have ever seen for a game, rpg or anything. They've made the game as if it was first meant to be put on a console gamepad. But even that doesn't excuse why its so aweful. I made it to 10 hours because I really did enjoy the way there were 3 factions you could join, and how you could do jobs for all of them. Problem is, many of the jobs you have to do require you to travel at a painfully slow pace throughout the land. Ah, there is no map telling you where you are either, so its all the more painful. The only map is ones you buy, and they are practically useless. One really nice thing is theres lots of dialog that people speak.
But the main character seemed to be the most "gayest" of all of them. This whole game had a very odd feel to it. There are 99% men in this game. And they all say wierd "gayly suggested" things to you that have a creepy feel to them. There's this wierd guy named Mudd that I ended up killing, but he was suggesting that I sleep in his hut with him, what the hell? I can overlook that creepy gay feeling the developers decided to put into the game... but there is so much more to anger anyone, and i'm an extremely patient person too...
Now to the retarded difficultly of monsters. You simply don't level up fast enough because there aren't enough easy things to kill. So what happens is your forced to save the game before every single battle incase things go bad, or you fight a bad guy who kills you in one hit. Also you can die in wierd falls off ledges. The games controls just are so bad. I can't express how bad and mad I'm getting just from this. Theres lots in this game that could have been awesome. More consistant monsters so you could level up decidently would have saved this game. Why do they throw in wimpy monsters with ones that kill you in 1 hit??? And why the hell is armour so impossible to get. 500 ore for crap armour?
Its 10 hours I gave this game to turn itself around, but I got more and more mad the further I got. Things just ending up the same, save every 2 seconds incase something huge kills you or you die from a glitch in the game. I haven't played Gothic 2 much, but I have heard they have the same control problems. The high reviews this game got have shocked me.
The graphics are good, but they run like crap. I found it to run choppy either at 640x480 or 1600x1200 at 16x filtering, it didn't matter, it just ran poor.
