Twenty years ago I lost countless hours of sleep playing Pirates on my Apple IIe. I am pleased to announce that I am once again losing sleep over this fantastic re-union with an old friend. It's back and it's the same only better. What I mean is that the general concept of the game is identical to the original except now it's in color with up to date graphics. The only problem is that this is a game for the father and not the son. Today's generation will find it too repetitive and slow moving and the graphics & action are not up to the speed & flash of today's FPS and RTS games. And … no they're not. But to gamers in my generation, the game is perfect with a good pace and everything you remember that made it the absolute best game on your Apple or Commodore 64 computer. You choose from 4 nationalities (French, English, Dutch or Spanish), recruit crewmembers, sail the Spanish Main (in good weather & hurricanes), visit ports, dance with governor's daughters, engage in merchant trading or undertake good old swashbuckling piracy including sea battles & swordfights after boarding a big, fat, wealthy Spanish galleon. You accumulate wealth & build a reputation from buying & selling goods & ships to upgrade ships, get promoted, get married and generally enjoy the experience of a totally non-linear tale of 20+ years in the life of a sea wolf. It's everything I remember. Fantastic! And no bugs, no problems, just hours of fun that never ends. I have even successfully managed to irritate my wife by spending so much time with it. You'll love if you remember the original - guaranteed. So what are waiting for? Go get it … right now!
