Looking through the user reviews of GTA Vicy City, I notice that there are many and almost all are positive. Instead of writing a proper review, I'd like to focus on a few things that annoy me and force me to give this game a 9 rather than a 10. I think that I am a pretty tough judge, and don't give 10s out very easily, so believe me that these annoyances are minor.
** The graphics are nice, but not really spectacular. I think they are fitting though, and work nicely with the 80s theme. There is no in-game option for anti-aliasing, so make sure you force it with your drivers. The "jaggies" were terrible before I did this!
** The controls are generally pretty good, but there are a few things that bother me. You can't shoot while moving, and you can't move while you're crouching. I really can't understand the reasoning for this. The controls don't seem very responsive either. It takes a split second after hitting the key to run or the mouse button to shoot before anything happens.
** The console style savepoint system can be aggravating, although I guess buying save houses adds to the gameplay.
Other than these few bits, I really enjoy this game. The sounds are especially good. VRock is my favorite radio station, and I have to say that when Ozzy's "Bark at the Moon" came on for the first time, it was one of the best moments I've experienced in gaming. There is a TON to do in this game. Whether you want to do missions or just drive around and kill people, you can, and still feel like you accomplished something in the game. "Open endedness" has become quite a buzzword in the gaming industry, but GTA Vice City is truly open-ended. There are very few times that you will be forced to do a specific mission to move on, and there are lots of little side missions and points of interest on the map to keep you busy.
To conclude, if you haven't already, BUY THIS GAME! It's one of the highest ranked ever for good reason!
