Project Gotham Racing is in my opinion; the most overrated racing game of all time. I do not get what is so great about this game. The controls are a little bit too realistic, the single player mode is hard as heck, and the game although it looks good, is not even close to touching NFS: Underground when it comes to customizing your ride. Which I mean is really what makes a racing game fun isn't it?
So any ways onto the review… this game does look good, I will admit that. This game went out there and showed that the Xbox could go out there and make a beautiful looking racer right away (this game obviously tried to compete with Grand Turismo 3 on the PS2). There are lots of tracks to choose from, and they all have their own distinctive surroundings and environments. So yes, this game does look good, but sadly that is in my opinion all that this game does well.
This game has a soundtrack that is full of generic metal and hard rock, which really just made me want to pull out my hair. I hate Saliva, or whoever sings that Here Comes The Boom song, that song really angers me. That song along with all the other music on this game makes me want to pull out a gun, and shoot my speakers. While the bullet hits say: "Here Comes The Boom, Ready Or Not…" The music in this game sucks, although I will admit that the cars do sound good, I will give it some credit there, but only some.
This game has a long single player mode that will tick the heck out of you. Honestly, whoever came up with the idea that in order to advance you had to place at all is stupid. I think that all racing games should be like Mario Karts, where you get points and add them all together at the end to see who wins and who looses. This game is way too difficult. You will get so frustrated you will stop playing for at least a week only to come back and realize that you still can't do it, and you want to give up on all hope.
This game has some pretty bad controls, well not so much bad as it is just way too realistic for my tastes. This game's handling is way too realistic. I don't care how realistic a racing game is, as long as it is a good time to play. This game is an exception, because it is too difficult and I do not want to play this game. This game is eaiser to control if you have a steering wheel, but even that takes some time to learn and figure out what to do. So you cannot really win in this part of the game either.
So Project Gotham Racing is a game that tries to compete with Grand Turismo series, and fails in almost every single way that it can, besides the graphics. The controls are too realistic, and they are just way too touchy, if you have a steering wheel. This game has a very bad soundtrack, and is just not worth your time. With such quality racers out there like Midnight Club 2 and 3, and the Need For Speed games, there is just so much to pick from than this steaming pile of garbage. I do not get why people like this series so much, honestly it is not that great. That is why I give Project Gotham Racing for the Xbox a 5/10.
