In 2005 three games came out that were better than the rest, these were games that were winning awards left and right. The first of these games was Splinter Cell Chaos Theory (the first of these three games that I played), and after completion I thought that there was no way that any game could be better than it, so early on I gave it my Game of Year Award. Then I played Resident Evil 4 and I found that game to be even better than Chaos Theory. After that I finally got around to playing the third game, God of War. After completing Resident Evil 4, my expectations for God of War were very high. I am very happy to report that God of War beat every single one of my expectations and in my opinion surpasses Resident Evil 4 by a mile.
God of War is short, simple, and sweet. This is one of the few games that I won't bash for being too short or being too simple. This is the perfect game; casual gamers will have a blast as will hardcore gamers who can beat Devil May Cry 3 on the hardest difficulty level. This game has replay value coming out of its ears. This game is so much fun that I bet you will play through at least three times before you even start to get a little tired of it. Everything about this game is loveable and enjoyable that is if you can handle the gore, and trust me after you get engulfed into the story you'll have to handle the gore because you won't want to put it down. Heck I found myself having trouble putting it down after I beat it, because the game is so much fun. Thank God, the sequel is now here so you can just move on!
The graphics are some of the best that I have seen on the ps2 hands down, and that's saying something since this game came out in 2005 and there are lots of next-gen ports to the ps2. The cutscenes look just as good as the in-game stuff and the cutscenes look amazing, I didn't know that the ps2 could look this good this is Xbox quality graphics I am talking about. The character models and the environments are hands down some of the best that I have ever seen, and I used to own an Xbox and I play PC games on a pretty up to date machine, so that is definitely saying something.
The game controls amazingly well. There is no camera control, but that is ok, because not once did I have a problem with the camera. The game controls are very simple too and they are really easy to learn.
Aha the sound of God of War. The voice-overs are movie quality. The voices fit the characters perfectly. The music is breathtaking. The score is absolutely beautiful, kudos to the composer. The swords sound great, and the bosses sound huge. The voice-overs are not really recognizable, except that the narrator's voice is the same voice as the talking tree from Disney's Pocahontas. The God's sound chilling, and the voice work there is outstanding too.
God of War is better than Resident Evil 4 and Splinter Cell Chaos Theory. God of War is probably the best game that you can and will ever find on the Playstation 2. With the amazing gameplay that almost anyone can pick up, this game is pretty much playable to anyone who wants to give it a chance. If you do give it a chance you will find yourself engulfed in the greatest story ever seen in gaming. There are puzzles, but if you cannot figure them out than you should not be gaming at all. With crazy replay value, you will probably play this game at least three times before you decide to move onto the sequel. God of War is on the list for best Ps2 game ever, as well as hands down best game ever made!
