I remember the first time that I ever heard about this game was on G4's XPLAY, since then I have been dying to give this game a try. A game that is a psychiatric thriller is really something that is new to me that is not in the vein of a First Person Shooter, not to mention that it is probably my favorite type of movie. So I went into this game head on thinking that it was gonna be a great game with very innovative ideas and overall fun gameplay even if it is just a tad bit short. What I wanted was not totally what I got.
The story in this game is something straight out of a movie. You kill this guy in the bathroom and then you try to figure out why you did what you did. You also take control of two police officers that obviously have the more boring side of the story but you also play them as you try to uncover what is happening. The story starts out fresh and I feel as I am playing not so much a game, but an interactive movie. Then after an hour or two of gameplay things start to get a little bit almost useless it seems on the cops side of the story, which can really make for a somewhat boring time. The story gets unreal and turns supernatural. Why can't your character just be crazy, and he doesn't know it yet? I did not see why this game had to have anything to do with supernatural things. This also brought the game down, making the innovative game seem like something that you have already played. I will admit though that after a while of time playing you will connect with a character and want the ending to be in their favor.
Graphically this game is pretty decent, but it is definitely not anything that we have not seen before. The game's graphics seem to however fit the story, which is a good thing. I would rather have ok graphics that fit the game than to have graphics that don't. This game is literally all cutscenes where you control what is happening in them, so really they are always at the best that they can be. I really do not have any complaints about the graphics so I will just leave it at that.
This game has some great sound. The voice-overs are great and the music whether it is Theory of a Deadman or background music it all fits in great with the story. The character voices all match them perfectly, making it a no-brainer that they picked the right people to do the voices in this game. Once again I have no complaints about the sound in this game at all.
Ok, now onto the controls. For the first hour of gameplay there really is no place for the camera to go wrong since you will be spending most of it in the diner where the murder takes place. Later on that is not the case however and the game tries too much to be like a movie and the camera really suffers from this. Just wait until you get to the first stealth mission, and you will know exactly what I mean by this. Other than that the controls are actually very responsive and they fit perfectly.
Ok, so this is a very innovative game that took me by surprise. The graphics are pretty good and the storyline is great as well. Although there are some camera problems the controls are pretty nice and the voiceovers and the music in the game could not be better. It is just a shame that after about 3 hours of gameplay that this game just has you doing some useless things that you do not want to do because you want to be on the case, not doing all this other junk. Not to mention that fact that the story takes a supernatural turn just ticked me off. I thought that this game was gonna have a better story than that. The overall game in my opinion gets a 9/10, but with the innovation that this game has it just does not seem like the right score. So I give Indigo Prophecy for the Xbox a not so perfect yet original 10/10.
