Star Wars Battlefront was a game that took gamers to all of their favorite Star Wars battles spanning through all of the movies and their great battle scnes. The first Battlefront however suffered from things that took away from being the best Star Wars game ever made. The first thing that it was missing was that because the third movie had not been released they had to not have that many levels from the third movie. Second, you could not play as Jedi's. This seemed absurd to me, since it is a Star Wars game. The third thing is that the vehicle controls were horrible and you could not play in space. All of these things have been fixed to make Star Wars Battlefront 2 the best Star Wars game ever made hands down.
The single player in this game is enourmous. You can play through the entire series as the galactic empire, from when they were clones to being Vaders henchmen. This is fun even though it lasts only five to six hours to beat the game on the normal difficulty.
Next there is Galactic Conquest which is a strategy game where you take over planets in a chess type stratey game where the whole galaxy is yours to take over and defeat evil.
Then there is the instant action mode is where the game can be the most fun as it never stops, you can play anytime you want and the game never ends. You can play any level you want, and then when you get enough kills you can play as a Hero (character from movies that fits level) until you die as them. I tell you nothing beats cutting through clones as Yoda, its the bomb. There are levels from the first game, but overall there are more new ones than old ones. The game really went into detail. For example on Degobah you can see Luke's crashed X-Wing, or on Tantooine fall into hidden pits in Jabba's Palace or take cover behind the Hutt himself. The possibilities are really endless.
Graphics wise this game looks pretty good. It is about the same as all of the other versions. I love the attention to detail, whether it be fog, lots and lots of trees, or just parts of the enviroment that look really good and complete the experience of being inside of a Star Wars battle. This game looks good and is one of the better looking ports out there.
Controls are really cleaned up in this version, and that is a good thing since they added space missions, I would not have wanted to play in space with the controls of the first game, either that or the PS2 controller is just that much better than the one on the Xbox, either way this game has some of the best controls I have seen in a while in a game that focuses on ground and vehicle combat. No complaints here at all.
This game sounds like Star Wars. The voice overs are sadly not done by the actors themselves but they sound close enough that even the die hard Star Wars fan who goes to every convention would still find them amusing when they use lines from the movies. The blasters and the vehicles sound like they are straight from a Star Wars movie and make you feel like you are directly inside of a Star Wars movie.
The multiplayer is in my opinion where this game lacks the most. If you are in a game and people are better than you it ruins the whole thing, because they are getting the Hero and you are getting sliced down every other second until you get really good, unless you find a whole sever of people your caliber its just not as fun. Playing with someone on the same PlayStation2 is really fun.
This game is really fun, even though the single player is more enjoyable than the multiplayer. The single player campaigns are on the short side of being five to six hours long each making the actual campaign part only 10-12 hours long, but I guarentee that you will be playing the I single player and single PS2 multiplayer for a long time, until you can master all of your friends. This is one of those games that sticks with you for a long time, and you will most likely never forget that you played this game and will enjoy it for a long time to come. I think that this is the Counter Strike for the PS2, because in my opinion Socom lacks the fun and excitment that this game has.
