I remember myself playing first NFS game on PC. The most important thing to me in the game was 'freedom'. There were some open tracks where you could just drive and enjoy.
Unfortunately, almost each new NFS game was worse than its predecessor. As GameCube owner, I was also a little dissappointed with NFS Hot Pursuit 2.
But the new Underground 2 is just what I was looking for. It is exactly the same 'freedom' experience like years ago. Although the main plot is rather linear, you do not really feel it. Instead you just focus on developing your cars and driving one of eight different types of races.
Two aspects of this game are mostly admirable to me. The first aspect is the open city where youe career takes place. The city is really huge and you can spend a lot of time just wandering around narrow streets or wide highways. The second aspect is the perfect GC port of this game. I was really afraid that the GC version would be much worse than others. But it is not! There are no graphics slowdowns and the gameplay is as smooth as it you would expect.
I think that the NFS Underground 2 is a must-have for each GC owner.
