It is interesting how a game can be misjudged by other people. Few days ago I wrote a review of Electroplankton - a game which has some glowing reviews but in my opinion is miserable and misdesigned. Today I write a review for Rayman DS - a game which has been criticized widely but is a masterpiece in my opinion.
The mostly criticized aspect of the game is its control scheme. This is what I think about it: if you played Rayman 2 on consoles using analog stick, you will probably feel the control scheme in DS version is uncomfortablel if you played the PC version however, using cursor keys (just like I did 7 years ago), the DS control scheme would be natural to you.
Another criticized aspect is the graphics - and here I disagree with critics. The graphics is nice, there are many bright colours and fine modelled objects. True, there are no texture filtering and sometimes you see huge unfiltered texels but it does not affect the experience much.
Sound is surprisingly clear and complicated s for such small handheld.
To me, Rayman DS is then a perfect port of one of my favourite games I've played few years ago on PC. It is surely not as advanced as, say, Super Mario 64 DS but is still a great platformer.
