A great addition to the Mario Kart series, Double Dash provides the ultimate multiplayer racing experience.
This game is a great game for all ages no matter kiddy or similar to the other Mario Karts people say it is.
The gameplay is great and innovative, adding a new two players in one cart option. One player drives the cart along the track while the other using helpful items similar to other mario kart games. The rider can also bash the kart into other carts and wipe them out. I was a little skeptical at first about the fun of riding on the back of a cart in a racing game, but it's surprisingly just as if not more exciting than driving the actual cart. You also can switch drivers whenever you want during the race if you want to take turns. Otherwise, in one player mode, you can control both as usual. I do think they took a step backwards when designing the battle mode stages as they are extremely basic and boring allowing for little strategy. However, they added two new battling options onto the usual 3-balloon battle. You can now play where every single itme is a bomb that you add onto your piles of bombs on your cart and launch at other players and steal stars. In the other game, your goal is to have control over a star when the timer runs out. Throughout the game people will use normal projectiles to hit the person with star and then get for themselves. All in all, this game was different enough that I had just as much enjoyment playing this for the first time as either of the other Mario Kart games.
The music is typical for the Mario Kart series with nice songs that directly correlate with each track. You might recognize a couple familiar tunes but the soundtrack is largely original. It's nothing to get too excited about but never gets bland or annoying.
The graphics are awesome, even as unrealistic as the style is. I especially enjoy the explosions during bomb battles (each explosion color coordinates with the launchers player color.) There's plenty of things going on around you so you won't ever get bored with the scenery.
You'll be playing this game forever. You just can't get tired of it. With a grand prix mode, battle mode, vs. mode, and time trial mode, the fun lasts and lasts. This game also has the capability of having up to 16 people playing against each other all at once (Obviously requires adaptors, and multiple TVs), but its possible. Buy this game and enjoy it!
