If you are a fan of turn based strategy (TBS) games, Front Mission 4 is a great addition to your collection. Fans of Front Mission 3 (PS1) will be pleased at the changes to FM4.
Let's start with one of the most beautiful opening cut scenes ever produced for a PS2 game. The production value is obvious to see.
Game play is standard for most TBS games. You move and fight, then the enemy moves and fights. A nice addition to the formula is 3D environments so the height of your Wanzer and your enemy's will affect your chances.
A new addition to the FM gameplay is the concept of links. You can use points to create offensive (your friends attack with you) or defensive links(your friends attack when you counter attack). Links can cause massive damage to your enemy at the expense of attacking when you want to. Balancing the need for massive damage against the need for damaging multiple enemies can be an interesting experience.
The amount of customization possible is also great. You can customize your Wanzer with different weapons (for damage), bodies (for power), legs(for movement), and backpacks (repair or communication). You can also customize your computer, which is equivalent to customizing your abilities. You can buy powers such as more action points (allowing you more actions), more link points, different powers (double shot, higher accuracy, etc).
All in all, FM4 is a very entertaining game and well worth the purchase price.
