I was just born at the begining of the 80s, so before Vice, I never got to appreciate the decade. Oh how things have changed! From the first moment you put the disk into your PS2, Miami and the 80s seem to come alive. The color, sights, sounds and atmosphere lure you in, and you never want to leave.
So, onto the actual game. You play as Tommy Vercetti, fresh outta jail, and sent to Vice City to get outta the way, and sort out a drug deal. Add the twist that you get ripped off, and have to recoup the cash, and BANG - there's your storyline. Not exactly ground breaking stuff, but if you want a great storyline, thank God for books and movies.
The game plays beautifully, and so it should really judging by its predecessor. The fluidity and scope of the game is amazing, as is the 'free to roam' aspect that makes GTA work so well.
There are tons of buildings to enter, loads of characters to meet (including Candy Suxxx, voiced by Jenna Jameson), and pedestrians on the streets have hundreds of phrases to utter, my fave being "You're a walking waste of Oxygen!". Over 100 vehicles as well, and what a range! Sports cars, 4x4s, Scooters, Bikes, Boats, Choppers, Buses, Trucks, and um... Golf Caddies, Dinghies and Baggage Handlers. Just, dont ask!
In terms of playability, the possibilities are endless. Even after completing the main and side missions, collecting all the Hidden Packages, doing all Rampages and Unique Jumps etc. there is still loads more to do, even just killing for the sheer hell of it.
To close, I would put this in the top 10 games of all time. Why? Well, when you look at the depth and freedom, the beautiful graphics, awesome 80s soundtrack, cracking Gameplay, and the serious dosage of R* humour, it isn't hard to see why.
