I believe Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 2 to be an excellent action/RPG. I think many people underrate this game far too much because of the ending and no online play. So the ending was really dissapointing, but didn't we all love the way the first one ended? Was the ending to this one really so much different from the first one? You think you've solved the problem, but then some completely new bad guy that was never mentioned in the first one, Mordoc, shows up out of nowhere. Everyone thought that was great. The same type of thing happens in this one, and you've got people saying they want to go back and change how well they rated the game just because of the ending.
Now on to the good stuff. Dark Alliance 2 is an easily accessible game for anyone new to the genre, but still adds great stuff for veterans. The button configuration works very well, and the shift key for spells was an excellent idea, much better than the Champions of Norrath spell page. The weapon creation system also is by far better than Champions of Norrath; it actually takes some intelligence and time as opposed to simply clicking on an item then on the weapon for a so-so effect. The character-unique side-quests to gain new abilities was awesome. Finally, the fact that you can eventually max out your characters abilities, unlike in Champions of Norrath, is always cool;and even though you can do so, extreme difficulty still sets for a good challenge no matter how many times you've beaten the game, and trust me you'll beat it tons of times.
The way I see it, even though Champions of Norrath was great, it got far too much credit when Dark Alliance 2 got far too little. It has great replay value, plenty of extra areas, and an awesome weapon creation system.
