Without a PS one to fall back on, I got this baby off eBay for $60. And what a $60 it was.
The graphics are sometimes the strong suit. I played it on a Windows 98 for nearly half a year through a blocky, pixelated view of Midgar. It wasn't until I got my XP that I fully realized that this game is absolutely gorgeous. The backrounds are nice and detailed, the characters are full of personality and animation, and the battle sequences are nothing short of stunning. Only the cutscenes stand as a gritty, low-quality of the PS1 version.
The sound isn't quite so good. Its (hypothetical) combination of the original score and an SNES music emulator doesn't rub well. Pity.
The rest is largely the same as the PS1 game. For XP users the patch floating about is mandatory.
