A new installment for the long line of the destruction derby style mayhem, Twisted Metal: Head On comes to on the PSP with all the ferocity of its prior predecessors. This game is basically a remake of Twisted Metal 2, but boy, what a remake it is. The visuals, compared to its PS1 counter part, are stunning. Head On has some of the best graphics on the PSP to date (at least compared to the games I have played on it so far), looking a lot similar to PS2 graphics. The music and sound effects are superb, but one must use the PSP's head phones to fully enjoy them. One thing I must mention is the accuracy of all the homing weapons. These bad boys will soar over hills and swerve around poles to hit their target (often its possible to hit someone clear across the map.)

For those who don't know, Twisted Metal: Head On, just like all other Twisted Metals, is a car battling game where the goal is simple: kill everyone before they can kill you. If a competitor can manage to survive to the tournaments end, the tournaments creator, Calypso, will grant them one wish for anything they may desire.

There are a variety of cars to choose from, each with their own unique special weapon, and plenty of basic weapons that any car can pick up and use to annihilate their opponents. The single player modes include story, challenge, and endurance. Challenge is the backbone of Head On, where you choose the arena to battle in and your enemies to destroy. In endurance, you stay in one arena and must fight enemy after enemy (you only fight one enemy at a time, though) until you perish. In story mode, you travel through all of the main arenas, fighting your competitors in each round. This mode is where everything important happens. Here you can unlock new cars, new arenas, and even cheats. Also, after beating this mode, you unlock a slideshow/ movie clip that shows you what your driver wished for. Most of the endings are 'messed up' in a sense, turned Twisted by the evil Calypso. The final boss of story mode is huge to say the least, and even terrifying the first couple times you face him.

Head On also includes two multiplayer modes, one which you can fight anybody anywhere, and the other in which you try to beat story mode with a friend. You can play people around you using the PSP's Ad-Hoc mode, where each player must (well, should) have a pack, or you can go completely on line and face any body in the world who owns Head On.

With all of that, there are still certain minor drawbacks to this game. For one, this game loses its touch pretty fast. Its fun at first, but after beating story mode a couple times and unlocking everything, you might not pick this game up as often. I'm not saying this game is terrible because of that. I am simply pointing out that it probably wont take more than a couple hours play to unlock everything that this game has to offer. The hard difficulty level is, well, just that, which is fine. But no matter what setting you have it on, you will hate Mr. Slam. His special weapon gets very annoying after a while, especially if you don't take care of him at the beginning of the match. All in all, this is still a great game. I suggest you at least rent it once, and maybe even buy it, if for nothing else because of the multiplayer. So here is my final verdict for Twisted Metal: Head On.

Storyline(s): 95 %
Replay Value: 95%
Graphics: 95%

Overall: 95%
