If there ever was an over-hyped game, it is Doom 3.
Don't get me wrong, I think Doom 3 is a fine game. I just don't think its worth all the fuss that people have been making over this title. The first few levels are thrilling, engaging and scary. id must have thought this was a good formula because they decided to duplicate the same thing for the next 20 levels. Thats its main problem, you can only scare someone with the "OoOooo, a demon hiding just behind that door is going to spring at you when you open it" trick a few times before they get used to it.
Another problem it has is that the game becomes progressively easier, as you gain more ammo, and eventually the Soul Cube (very, very overpowered is the soul cube), so much so that the last 5 levels are probably the easiest of the game.
The engine, however, is wonderfully fantastic and only makes me drool for what better game designers are going to do with it. Thats the only reason I rate d this game a 6 instead of a 4.
