If they had removed "Final Fantasy" from its title, I believe this game would have been better recieved by the gaming public.
Much like "Final Fantasy Adventures" and "Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest" before it, this game really has nothing to do with Final Fantasy other than it was made by square and it's an adventure game. By itself it has its moments, but the pacing is so slow, its almost unbearable. The cutscenes are boring, the "narration" will put you to sleep. The writing is bad, and the storyline, frankly, is lame.
Multiplayer mode is less fun than single player mode. In single player you can force the moogle to carry the chalice for you, leaving the player free to do what he/she wants for the most part. In multiplayer, you or one of your friends has to be the chalice carrier, causing that person to be bored to tears, and more vulnerable to attack. Not to mention the fights that start when one person wants to go a different way. That and you move S O S L O W LY ... its pathetic.
Once you get past all that, the game has good visuals and is somewhat fun to play in single player mode. My only regret is the $20 I paid for 2 gameboy link cables so my son and I could play together.
