From the long lasting, powerful series of Zelda games, the latest installment, The Legend of Zelda: the Wind Waker, falls short in some cases. I will probably get lynched for saying so, but I will continue.
First off, Cel-Shaded technology graphics work well in some games, most notably: Dark Cloud 2. For Zelda, the graphics gives it somewhat of a kid feel. While it doesn't take away from the gameplay in a traditional sense, it hurts when it coems to players tastes. Leave it to Nintendo to say " Screw it" to conventionalism, but at the same time, it is a risk to play something new on a beloved series of games.
The storyline is decent, and some of the surprised are actual surprises when you get to them.
The game machanic is pure Zelda, including amusing little games like taking photos of people to make into figurines. This game is certainly Link to the Past with a kick.
The games that were on the N64 were good, and it is a shame that Wind Waker can't quite compare to them. Too much time is spent travelling the waters of Upper Hyrule, and until you get the teleport spell, gets really annoying. Even with it, you can only go to a certain amount of places on the map.
While the Game Cube is lacking epic titles, Wind Waker is at least a good start. If you like the concept, you'll like the game. If you are a hard core fan, you'll like the game to reply. But, like every other Zelda game, it is at least a rental. Who knows, you might end up liking it. A number of anti-Wind Waker people ended up proclaiming it the best of the LoZ games. I wouldn't go that far, but if you are looking for something new, then by all means.
