Ahh… the great Final Fantasy series, everything you love about RPG's.  This is the best Final Fantasy released by far.  The core of any Final Fantasy game has always been its story, and Final Fantasy VIII's story is the best the series - and likely the best the genre has ever seen.

You play as Squall Leonhart, a loner of some sort who never socializes much finds out that he has a big part to play in saving the world and his friends around him.  He is a cadet at a type of military base for children (called a garden).  He eventually learns that he is destined for greatness when a sorceress from another dimension plans to take over the planet and time itself.  It's up to Squall and a handful of friends to stop her and save the human race.  During your long adventure you get to know these "friends" better, and you will eventually find yourself connected to some of them and will see the more emotional side of the story.

During your quest you need to fight monsters and absorb spells from them to power up and gain new attributes and strengths in order for you to progress through the game.  Each character has his or her own unique style of fighting and personality.  You are allowed to control 3 characters at any given time (Squall plus other 2) to help you in your aid against evil.  But you also have other friends that join you later on in the game, they are called GF's; and are animal like gods who poses enormous power and magic to help you in desperate times.  There are great boss battles which will keep you interested from start to finish, there are also sub quests for you to do if you choose which will all lead up to a game that is a good 80 hours in length.

The only downside is that the music might not be as good as the older final fantasy's but it still has an impressive soundtrack that give emotion to the game.  The main song "eyes on me" by Faye Wong is very good, but I have heard complaints that it is offensive, to each his own I guess.

If you are a fan of RPG games this one is just for you, it is as good and fun as it will ever get!
