Well, I began a standard RPG Gamer, playing normal RPGs like Final Fantasy and games like that. Only a little while ago, I became more detached from those games, and went to games that are more like Madden or Halo, moving most of my gaming time to the XBOX. However, I had heard some good things about Disgaea, when it originally came out, and went ahead and picked it up. That was probably the best move of my life.
I popped the game into my Playstation and started playing, not having too much faith in the game, but still excited to be going at it. After watching the first cutscene, I began to think to myself how innovative this game really was. I began to play, and fell in love with the story, the humor, the characters, the gameplay, everything! I just became wrapped up in the gameplay, that hours upon hours passed, and soon, I had reached 40 hours, and just then beat the game.
I sighed, and was ready to turn off the game, and then I saw, "Began Game +?" My face had a look of confusion on it, and I shrugged, clicking yes.
Automatically, I began with characters of the same stats and everything, ready to fight evil and become Overlord once again . . . this time, I decided to make it interesting, and after completing most of the side quests, and parts of the game I hadn't yet ventured to, ended with an extra 110 hours clocked in.
Thats not all, though. The game almost never ends the same. There are about 9 different endings, and to view them all, you have got to play through the whole game!
You may still be confused about purchasing this game. Thinking: Well, strategy games get old quick.
The game's attack system is somewhere along the lines of Final Fantasy Tactics, and although you may begin confused or a little on the side of thinking about turning it off, give it about twenty minutes, and you'll be as involved in the game as you've ever been.
Something that is really interesting about the game is the option to create characters by choosing their classes, and leveling those classes up unlocks new classes, and other characters to strengthen your lineup to become the Overlord.
The storyline, the characters, the humor, plot, and gameplay, are all challenging and fun to watch and do. Levelling your characters is required, so don't think this game is a quick play through, if you're waiting for that specific RPG, or think this may be one to last the ages purchase it. In the past six months I've completed the game eight times. The best tactical game, the best RPG, the best game on the Playstation 2, ever.
For the reasons stated above: The plot, gameplay, customization, humor, character involvement and replay value, I give this game a perfect score: 10 out of 10.
