In a state with three big cities, everything in between, excellent cars, a mountain, and a feeling of eerie realism, lies the heart of the innovative and best action game of all time: Grand Theft Auto game, San Andreas.
"It's larger than the biggest RPG, has more story than the heftiest adventure game, and has almost as many mini-games as Nintendo's Mario Party." Says IGN, and that is no mere exaggeration.
Carl Johnson, or CJ, returns to Los Santos as a result of his mother's mysterious death. Although reluctant of his return, he is glad to meet back up with his family and old gang. While the story in GTA3 and GTAVC were okay, at most could be described as good, this game completely blows them out of the water.
Yes, the mission system returns, and can be initiated by visiting members of your gang. The missions are entertaining to say the least: they are hilarious, action-packed, and more fun then anything! The setting of the missions provide for some serious moments (since the game has the dark feeling of some ghettos), but at other moments, could make you want to piss yourself because it is that funny. The missions range from killing someone on a motorcycle to simply beating the crap out of a random person.
However, the missions aren't the greatest part of the game, Rockstar has introduced the ability to break into a house, steal valuables, and then sell them for an extra buck. Once you have enough cash, you can have assets on every side of town, and can save your game at them. The drive-by shooting are a great way to take out rivals or just have some fun shooting up the streets. Or you could try entering a race for some more money while you're in a car, whatever you choose to do, it is almost guranteed to be fun. Maxing out strength and stamina can be done by working out, and visiting some areas will unlock new styles of fighting. Increasing your health by eating is very interesting, and I find myself at a Taco Stand after beating the heads of a few people in, and then working out in the gym.
Finally, the sound. GTA3 and Vice City had all right soundtracks, but this one is simply great. Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Easy-E, STP (Stone Temple Pilots), and Rage Against the Machine all make appearances on the various radio stations, which can help to get you in your gangster mood, or loosen you up with some funny talk or commercials.
I spent over four hours on the game in my first sitting, and am still hooked on it. You're lucky I got off of the game this long to type this . . . because I'm addicted, not just because it is a great game, but because you almost feel like you're a part of the game. The setting of it, and feeling of being in the ghetto really sets a dark and intense mood, but when in a place where Casinos are, you feel like you're on top of the world, no other game can do that to you, so this is a must have.
