Finally a decent fps based in the sci-fi genre. I suppose though that since halo came out on the xbox, most of us who owned a ps2 like myself wouldn't think that anything would be able to push halo off the mantle for a bit. Well area 51 is very engrosing and pulls you in with awesome cg movie cutscenes. They are done so well you swear you were watching part of a film.
The games combat is actually very well done with great ragdoll effects to the point where you start laughing or cheering yourself on when you blow the mutants away.
When you undergo the change later in the game, (which by the way you actually need) it becomes a matter of survival for your character.
The voice acting isn't bad and it isn't great either. Having David Duchovny voice the main character is kind of weird in a way. In some ways it's a bit like playing through an episode of the x-files. Not just because during the loading screens you'll see the name of the level with that errie light-from behind-effect, but also the way in which David does the narrations through the levels. Just try not to fall asleep though as his voice can have that effect on you!
All in all a very well made fps from midway, and it borrows from many other classic titles such as doom 3, red faction and the aforementioned halo.
