Red Faction II is perhaps one of the best PS2 first person shooters ever, even though hardly anyone bought it. Read on to find out more.
Red Faction II has you assuming the role a super soldier battling a communist-like government. The plot is standard fare, but it doesn't really matter as the action is top notch. The graphics are great also. Some people have said that they aren't really better than the first Red Faction. I couldn't disagree more. Character models are more detailed, environments are brighter and sharper, and weapons look better than ever. The big thing that they hyped about this game is the Geo-Mod engine, which lets players destroy walls and the environment. Although this is a nice touch, it rarely affects gameplay, as there are few places where you can blow apart walls. Still, this engine makes for some great effects during fights.
The gameplay of Red Faction is the best. It's fast and furious to the extreme. It's not an extremely long game, but you'll be lucky if you can beat it on easy. They throw waves of enemies at you, forcing you to take cover and fight with everything you have. I must say the enemy AI is quite nice, as they take cover intelligently. The bosses are another story altogether. These bosses are easily the most frustrating part of the entire game, and will make you want to rip your hair out. Overall, single player is fun, but multiplayer is great. There's no online to speak of, but playing with a friend is great fun. There are lots of different levels, skins, and customizable bots to use. This make's multiplayer an enjoyable experience. You just need to find someone who will actually play with you.
All in all, Red Faction 2 is an enjoyable game which will probably not recieve the attention it deserves. If you have a chance, rent this immediately. You won't be dissipointed.
