GTA: San Andreas is Rockstar's best game yet. This game will not only challenge your gaming skills, it will test your geographic skills as well.
The game begins as Carl (C.J.) Johnson returns home after his brother and mother were killed by rival gangs. He is approached by Office Tenpenny (a dirty cop) and is ordered to remain in town and do their dirty work for them. On top of that, gang warfare has hit an all-time high in San Andreas. Gangs are jockeying for position among the elite. It looks like it's up to C.J. to right all the wrongs in town.
This game is huge, so huge in fact that it would take over 20 real-time minutes to get from one edge of the game to the other by jogging. Many places to explore, such as bars, strip joints, clothing stores, the gym, restaurants, etc.
There are only two negatives about the game. First, the targeting system for shooting weapons can get a little hectic, especially in multiple-enemy areas. I've died several times during ambushes. The other problem (albeit a minor one) is the graphics. After a while you won't even notice the little glitches in the game or the extremely large hands during the cut-scenes that look like as EGM said "loaves of bread". Big deal, I say. The gameplay more than makes up for the graphics, and this game could very well be one of the 5 best games all-time for the PS2.
In conclusion, if you enjoyed GTA III and GTA: Vice City, you will absolutely love this game. Very similar in nature, but huge beyond all reason. The early 90's hip-hop soundtrack may turn off some (I'm not into it), but you never notice, and it actually makes the game feel more authentic. Also, with the extensive swearing, pimping, shooting, etc., this game is only meant for players over 18. An excellent addition to any gamers collection. 9.75/10
