When Midway announced they were giving a fresher look to his Gauntlet series I (and my coop friends) was glad about this news. We liked to play in 4 player coop in the older versions on XBOX and N64. This was not our most anticipated game of the year but we hoped this game could be a good multiplayer game. Unfortunately, Gauntlet: Dawn of sorrow was disappointing. Technically this game was better then the other version, but overall it was far from what you could have liked in the other version.
The first thing you noticed when you start to play is that there is no castle or main world to select which mission you want to play. The game is made like a "scenarized" one. So you only have one main path to follow. The game is much more linear then his predecessors.
The time for each missions is very short, it couldn't be a problem if the number of them were big... but it isn't. In fact, the whole game can be finished in less then four hours. This is ridiculous for a game in the age of huge media storages.
In the last Gauntlet we were able to unlock few things like new characters, but this isn't the case in this one. You will unlock all your special moves far before the end of the game.
Liked I said before, on the graphic and sound aspect the game is better, but less then four hours and a linear boring story mode made this game looks like an unfinished game or only an easy money-maker for Midway. At least, if you play this game with friends it could be a good rent but don't expect to play for a long time because the lifetime of this game is ridiculous even for a renting.
