Pathway to Glory is a turn-based tactical game, in the same vein as X-Com, Laser Squad and others, set in World War 2.
The presentation, graphics and sound are amazing for an handheld game: good quality movies, a great soundtrack (including cello!), good, usable menus, great sound effects and voices in several languages (since there are soldiers of about half a dozen nationalities in the game).
There are several classes of soldiers: regular infantry, medics, heavy weapons infantry, snipers and radio operators. The latter ones can order devastating air strikes, although there are a limited number of them per mission; they can also carry a regular rifle or pistol. In fact, you can choose the weapons for every member of your team before each mission, but of course some equipment is only usable by some classes. There are also drivable vehicles, like tanks or jeeps.
The maps are big and detailed, with trenches, trees and vegetation, buildings and more. Soldiers can walk in three different stances, which influence the rate of movement, but also how hard to hit or spot they are.
Surviving units get experience and can be promoted in rank, and carry over to the next mission.
I haven't tried multiplayer yet, but, from what people say in the forums, it's amazing, and extends the life of the game indefinetely. Plus, because the N-Gage is probably your cell phone as well, it means that 1) you can always play a quick match, and 2) wherever you are, you can go online and find opponents. You can't have something like this on a GBA or a PSP, and even the DS requires the other players to be near; you don't have such limitations in this case, thanks to the N-Gage Arena.
