Victorious Boxers: Ippo's Road to Glory is truly a great game.  I was looking for something new in the local movie rental store.  I came across this game and had sudden interest in boxing.  This game did look really interesting so I rented it and here's my review.

Gameplay: 9/10
The gameplay is medium to difficult because there are no health bars, as in real boxing you have stamina which can tire you out and let the opponent knock you out.  Even though this game can be very frustrating at times and you might feel like you want to break your controller because you are losing countless times, patience is the key thing here.

Graphics: 8/10
The graphics in this game are good.  Like most games the character's body separates on the chest.  The ring looks awesome, even better than boxing and wrestling games I've played.  When you fall it's like how you would react to a hard punch to the gut, nicely on your face.

Sound: 7/10
Punching an opponent sounds very odd like you are slapping your hands together.  Still when that happens when you punch it does sound believable.  The ring announcer speak his voice is very soft until he says you and the opponent's name.  Overall it's fine.

Control: 9/10
Ippo is fair at his foot work but when you are in tough spot and need to pull yourself left or right you will tend to slow down because he gets tired from any special moves you pull.  Punching an opponent can get hard because sometimes your fingers slip and that will lose you the match.

Story: Like most boxing games you start out as an amateur and work your way up in the ranks by beating people.  The game turns into an RPG at point which gives you chances to play as other people as said in the manual.

Replay: 10/10
This game will keep you coming back for more with it's witty characters and it's difficulty.  You'll be playing for hours on end with this game and try to unlock more and more boxers.

Buy or Rent?: I'd have to say buy.  You will be playing this game for so long and buying it will allow you to beat as renting it will make you pay more money for a couple of more fights.  Buy it.

Overall: 9/10
A great game with a lot of potential that will make more and more manga artists interested in manga gaming.  This really is one of the best for the PS2.
