Taking, what seems, ages to complete, Microsoft and Lionhead Studio unleashed Fable on the Xbox in mid-October. Being scared away from only average reviews, I did not start playing Fable until late November. If only I had known what I was missing. In short, Fable is easily one of the most exciting RPG's on the Xbox system. Unlike most RPG's, however, Fable is a much faster paced, combat-oriented adventure, taking its inspiration from the Legend of Zelda series for Nintendo, which is not a bad thing at all. The sheer amount of level and character detail is enough to make any gamer's jaw drop. After waiting so long for Lionhead's masterpiece to finally hit store shelves, it's easy to see why it took so long to complete. Both graphics and sound are perfect, resulting in a spectaculare fireworks show. My only gripe on this near-perfect game is its length, taking no longer than twenty hours to complete (and that's if someone takes the time to complete most of the side quests). However, the ability to choose between the paths of good and evil clearly warrants a second or third time playing through the game. When all is said and done, Fable is a solid adventure that will keep you hooked for days and, in my case, weeks to come. Here's to hoping that the inevitable sequel will be just as thrilling and not take eons to complete.
