Being a person who doesn't really like killing animals, I bought this game to get a taste of the hunting experience; unfortunately it fell a little short of that. Don't get me wrong I actually do enjoy playing this one but it could be so much better.
The game has 2 main modes; Action Zone and Career Hunt. Action Zone pits you against various animals. The simple object; kill all animals in your area (its location is shown as a red dot on your screen), quickly head to portal and start again in a new area. Overall there are 12 levels with various numbers of zones for each level. If this is what you like just go for other FPS's.
Career Hunt is the way to play. This allows you to go on chartered hunts or complete different hunting challenges. You earn money from your kills, and unlocking new hunts and challenges as you progress. The "red dot" which shows the location of your prey in Action Zone, is not included in Career Hunt.
I like the way all your records and trophies are kept, the quality of your prey and skill used to kill it are all recorded. It adds some longevity to the game as you try to beat your previous best.
The graphics are pretty good, the environments feel nice as you wonder around in the wild. The sounds of the surroundings capture the feel very well, birds, wind, insects and noises of you distant prey are all great. The animals look good but sometimes move a little unrealistic.
The gameplay is the big let down. It feels as though you are very short which makes the first person perspective feel awkward. There are plenty of weapons and equipment but selecting what you want to use is slow and tedious. You need to hit the select button and select your desired item then get back into gameplay, you then need to activate it, usually for only one use. Again, very slow and tedious! Aiming and shooting feels good and hitting you target can be satisfying.
There are vehicles you can use, but they control terribly. They have no power, poor response and bad physics. Better off walking!
All in all this is a below average game, even fans of the genre will find it hard to get into.
