Resident Evil 0 is my second RE game, and it's just a nice as the first. My other RE game is the REmake, also for gamecube, so clearly I'm not bored of these games yet. Let's break this one down:
Graphics:9.5/10
The graphics are amazing, no doubt. Every small detail is there, in the rooms, on the characters, etc. Why did I take away 0.5? They just aren't as good as the graphics from the REmake. You can see some jagged edges on characters (especially Billy's arms), and there are some other small things, that make it not quite as good as REmake.
Sound:8/10
The sound is quite good, don't get me wrong, but it just doesn't deserve a 9 or a 10. The voice acting is fairly good, but it is a little bit off, and the voices don't match the mouths very well. For music, well, there really isn't much music at all, but the music that is there, is well placed.
Gameplay:8/10
Lol, what can you expect out of a RE title. The bad moving scheme is never welcome, but it's not so bad that you can't play it. Overall, I've become accustomed to it, so it's quite livable. Also, you will quickly get used to the controls (whether you like it or not), so the controls aren't going to get in the way of any combat.
Story:7/10
Eesh...it was pretty good, and it did reveal some things about the past of RE (a lot of which was already known anyhow). However, this is supposed to be what happened the day before RE1, so I naturally assumed that the end of this game, and the beginning of REmake would tie in together, or at least have a connection, but I didn't feel that was the case.
Difficulty:Well, I played through on Easy the first time, and it was about as hard as playing through REmake on normal...so I can imagine how difficult Hard must be. This IS a challenging game, as all RE games are, so don't expect a walk in the park.
Replay:Well, this game is better and worse than the REmake. It's better, in that the game is a lot longer. In REmake, you're pretty much done once you hit the second disc, but in RE0, the second disc is pretty much the halfway point in the game (maybe a little past it), so it will take you longer to beat it. Also, there are plenty of things to unlock, such as an extra minigame, that is challenging and fun, costumes, extra weapons, and even more things inside the extra minigame. Plus, a lot of these things have to be unlocked on Easy, Normal, and Hard. RE0 is worse than RE, in that there is only one game to play through, not two, because you're playing as both characters.
Buy/Rent:Depends. If you're a casual gamer, just rent, because you can beat it in a rental without a problem. If you like to unlock every last goodie in this type of game, then buy it, because it will surely be worth it.
As a final comment, I'd like to say, don't be deceived by my ratings. This game would surely have much higher points, except for the fact that I've played REmake quite a bit, and simply put, RE0 isn't as good. But it IS still a VERY great game, and shouldn't be looked past.
Overall:8/10
