Fable is one gorgeous looking RPG with some solid gameplay to be had. It crosses more into the platform fighter with it's control method but this necessarily isn't a bad thing.
If you're a purist, you might have something of a mixed bag with Fable. It errs on the side of arcadish more than anything, and the long term appeal isn't as varied or lasting as other titles like Morrowind or Knights of the Old Republic.
A decent RPG overall and it definitely brings some fresh air to the system, but sadly, it's not the be all and end all of RPGs on the Xbox and certainly does not live up to the hype generated.
