This horror sci-fi FPS comes with both pros and cons like any normal game but not although I think this game is great and has more pros than cons well for the one bad thing I found about this game is the most critical problems of them all in a big time game. I'll start by talking about this problem followed by the goods. Doom 3 is just plain linear! You'll be fighting Zombies and Fireball throwing monsters for a long while before seeing new monsters..well actually if you play a lot well it wont be that long but I actually took about 2-3 months to get to the point I'm at because I usually just played between 30 minutes to 2 hour games taking my time searching and searching past areas for extra bullets, health and armor. You'll stick with the same weapons for a while too like the pistol, shotgun and machinegun. I was dissapointed when I got the machinegun because it doesn't sound very good and the bullet shots dont even feel like they hurt the enemy. For the goods well let me say that the game is scary! I jumped a few times but some other people could actually stop playing the game because it's so scary. The graphics are just awesome and the package doesn't ask much of a machine to play it. I played it with a AMD Athlon64 3200+, 512 mb of ram with a nVidia Geforce FX5200 which is really cheap now.. I played it on low settings with a few medium settings on and the game still looks awesome. My friend played it with a Geforce MX4000 or something without lag on all low settings and a screen resolution of 640x480 but the game still remains fun at those settings. The story is normal I'd say.. it's what it should be. I'm about 15 hours in the game but I didn't feel like playing anymore but I saw the ending at my friend's house (He had about the same specs as me but with a ATI Radeon 9600 Pro) and it was pretty good but could of been better. The multiplayer is not really good..it's okay but I can easily pass that up for a good old Quake 3 game. That's pretty much it and since Quake 4 will use Doom 3's engine well I honestly have to say that I'm expecting something rather bad.. We'll see when it comes out.
Based on 3 different systems!:
-Graphics: 10/10
Great Characters, Great Modeling
-Sounds: 8/10
Great Atmosphere, Questionable Gun Sounds
-Controls: 10/10
PC Controls are 100% customizable so heres some free points
-Replay: 6/10
Very long and linear but some Zombie addicts will redo over and over and the missing Xbox CO-OP mode is frustrating. Hopefully a MOD is on the way.
-Fun Factor: 7.5/10
Good times especially at the beginning but loses it's grip after a few hours.
::OVERALL::
-8.3/10 (GREAT!)
-83%
-GR Score: 8/10
Closing Comment:
I've had lots of fun with this game and even if we've already seen the release of the expansion, this one is still one to try for any FPS fans. Multiplayer can still be found easily because I was dissapointed for reasons lots of people beg to differ. If you really didn't try this one yet well I suggest waiting until the last week of October around the release of the movie and get either the PC or XBOX version. After you watch the movie, you'll want to play Doom 3 probably. That's what happens to me when I watch Resident Evil or Mortal Kombat movies.
