The #1 FPS of the year is without a doubt F.E.A.R. and the reason(s) why are really easy to find. First of all the game features a great single player campaign where you are a First Encounter Assault Recon soldier. It's clear up to this point. The campaign is easily the most movie-like this year compare to other games because you can quickly remember where you saw that before, like the Shotgun/Flashback type of horror also used for comedies like The Griffins but let's not go into that. Although ideas may feel taken or inspired by other productions, it puts in a way we've never felt it before. Honestly, it's like taking something good and making it better. The gameplay of F.E.A.R. is also cool, you can do highflying kicks and all sorts of things like that. Although the thing that cought most of my attention is the detailed particle effets.. they are really well done, like shooting a wall for instance, pieces will fly off.. even if you shoot the floor but sometimes I think they took it too far when you shoot the ground with a pistol and it makes a 1 foot crater but thats alright lol.. it happens rarely anyways. The graphics of this game are pretty advanced too, although I find it's a little of a system hog, they deserve credit. The Character models look a little like plastic but they look lifelike nonetheless. The weapons are not really anything special in F.E.A.R. but what makes them special is how cool shooting in this game is with the physics, blood and particles. Oh, and the characters can lose body parts but they can also completly explode while shooting with a shotgun in close combat. The multiplayer mode of F.E.A.R. is also good although not as good as the campaign, it's still something I'd play for a long time if I had High Speed Internet but saddly they don't offer that here so I was only able to play a one-on-one with one of buddies but it still wasn't fair for him because I made the server but we still had tons of fun and we are expecting to play this game at our next LAN-party. I'm not the type of guy that gives details on a game's campaign when I review but it's about 8 to 12 hours long... maybe a little more. It has 11 chapters in total packed with unharming horror and mind blowing action. Because I put an end to this review, I forgot to mention the Slow-Motion effect of this game. Your character has a Reflex bar like the Focus bar in Enter The Matrix or Max Payne which is quite useful in tight spots however it can get old, well for me it did, and the action wasn't as cool when I began to use it all the time. Note that it's applyable in special multiplayer modes.

Final Word:
The game is a must for FPS fans and it's no doubt worth the price.
