What began as just a demonstration of the new CryTech engine became one of the most impressive games to date. Try this game -- I guarantee if you are a FPS fan, you will buy this game. It is that good.

Let's begin with what you will first notice, the graphics. Even on a midlevel system this game shines. With so many options to tweak, you are not able to use the excuse, "My computer won't run it." Situated on an island region, the game goes from beaches, high cliffs, caves (natural and man made), high security compounds, swamps, etc. The list could continue for quite a while.

Each setting feels natural and real. One of the main reasons is that you can see for miles, almost literally. Near the end you are perched at the top of an extremely high waterfall -- you can see so far out and down that it almost gave me a little vertigo.

The gameplay takes full advantage of the vistas that are presented. You really have many options as to how you approach a target. At one point in the game an enemy base filled with many targets is in between you and your goal. You could run into the base guns blazing; or try to sneak around the base using the foliage and underbrush as cover; or you could just find a jeep and speed through the base hitting anyone that happens to get in your way. However, whatever you try to do, believe that the enemies will react very realistically.

Which brings us to the AI. In many games, you can make noise and have 50 enemies come at you in exactly the same line. That makes picking them off easily because you know how they are going to move. That's not going to happen in Far Cry. If you shoot at someone and miss (or just can't finish him off) he will run and call for reinforcements -- and they show up!

Going into the same situation against one opponent 5 times will yield 5 different paths he takes to try and take you down. Groups will try to flank you. If you hole up in a room, instead of blindly running into the doorway, they will probably try to get you to move by throwing a grenade in at you.

Needless to say, you get involved in some very unique situations. I would find myself not knowing how to react when faced with various times just because I was not used to so much from a game.

And when I say so much, I mean quantity in addition to quality. After about 1/2 of the way through the game I actually thought that I was near the end. It took some time to actually play through the whole thing. Not to mention all the times I spent Quick Loading the game just to see how far I could hang glide, or swim underwater, or run through a base without dying.

It was been a long time since I have had this much fun with a game. Honestly, if this is the first game from a company most no one had heard of we can expect many great things to come. Look for this game and pick it up when you can.
