How bad are the controls in this game? Well, I love this game and have replayed both Gothics back to back recently, but when I restarted for the first time after not playing for more than a year I couldn't figure out the controls! That is super counter-intuitive.
But I bought the game after struggling with the demo for a week just to figure out the simplest actions, and at least for me, it was worth the effort. Morrowind is a great game, but as we all know, once you have levelled up a bit, the game becomes a piece of cake. Not so Gothic.
As a newby, even the smallest animal can quickly kill you, but as you progress, the animals and the enemies get progressively more difficult. And can quickly kill you if you take on more than one or let them swarm you.
This is a game where you have to be cagey and careful at all times, even in NPC interaction. Sometimes you walk up to a person and get trapped in a dialogue where you must make an important choice... no getting out of it. Sometimes you need just one more kill to level up and you're trying to draw one animal away from the group for a relatively easy (if you've got the timing down) kill and they all suddenly charge... ouch! Run away!
Tons of gameplay, seamless game world, lots to see and do, a good story, really meaningful levelling up, continual challenges and plot twists. This is one of the best.
