Having played both MGS and MGS 2 I went into this game with high hopes and high expectations. Claims that it would redefine the stealth combat genre cheerfully flown like kites everywhere. Thirty minutes in the game I knew that I hated it. Perhaps they lost the spirit of the older games or perhaps it was something else. In either case, I found the story premise to be ludicrous; a soldier dropped behind enemy lines with no food, no water, no back-up or ever reliable stopping power in his weapons. I know Snake is, more or less, a superhero but this is his 'rookie' mission and they want miracles. Also, in this incarnation of MGS Snake seems much frailer than in the past releases, also more prone to be spotted regardless of your camo setup. On normal mode, in the first area of the game I use using woodland camo and facepaint; it totalled up to +30 or 40 stealth. Lying silently and unmoving in high grass, a trooper taht isn't even on my screen spots me and gacks me before I can even stand up to get the grass out of my face to shoot straight. I was deeply disappointed in this game. I know I'm in the minority here, but it did not live up to my expectations at all.
