Twisted Metal: head on, is a fast action car combat. Basically you simply grab different kinds of weapon around the arena and throw it at your opponent. The game has 10 playable characters and another 7 you need to unlock; each has different look, special weapon, and story (Tower tooth is not playable in story mode). The story of this game is Calypso the mastermind behind the Twisted Metal tournament will grant the winner a one wish.

There are 3 main game options including the Story mode, which you will go into this series of battles until you reach the final boss and watch a storybook like sketch of characters story. The characters have voice over which is a good thing to express more emotion. After you finish a certain character you can watch their ending in option mode. Other mode includes Challenge Mode which is a normal quick battle with computer, you select you enemy and the arena you want to battle, and Endurance Mode, where you battle series of characters in one level more like a survival mode. The loading time every battle is very short (like 20 sec or less estimate), the battle is very fast phase you have special weapon which refills after sometime and some weapons you will pick around the arena like Fire missile, Homing, Napalm, Upgrades which give you certain power like upgraded machineguns and armor, Relics which you can only have one at a time, it gives you certain power like homing upgraded machinegun or Leech life after you damage an enemy and so on.

Maps are big enough and full of different environmental object you can destroy. You can also use an environmental attack (you pick this up like a normal weapon) like a Rocket explosion in Russia arena, and Electric attack in Paris and so on every map has one to add a little excitement. Maps like LA has an area where you can grab many weapons so it's kinda not good they should have spread the weapons a little more especially in online mode. Other than that everything is ok in map

Multiplayer is the best part of this game. There are 3 options in the multiplayer part. First is the Ad-hoc, which mean you connect to another PSP directly with TMho game. Next is Infrastructure, where you connect with a wireless router and do online battle across the county or around the world. And the last one is Infrastructure LAN where you connect into one wireless router with other players around the area.

The online mode is great, in fact I think this is the best part of it. You need a Wireless router and an Internet connection. You first connect to the server and create your in game name and password and then log in. Then you select from the Lobby where you want to fight like West, East, South and North, remember they did that because the closer you're connected with other player the better. Upon selection of the Location you select which room you want to enter and battle or you can create your own. You can customize the battle like how many the player (2-6), removing Health, or infinity weapons, Removing the Health Bar or radar, Type of battle like Death match, Team Battle, Coop, Last man, and so on. The online is free

On the Technical side, Graphics is 8/10 for me a lot of environmental destructible and big and different maps (aprox. 10 maps and unlocables), Sound is 7/10 has rock metal theme especially on stage 1, has voice over in the ending sequence. Controls 9/10 good enough and responsive, you can either use the Analog or the Dpad. You can do certain moves upon pressing sequence in the Dpad like Freeze Rockets, Shields, or Chaff grenade and so on it will deplete your Blue bar upon using it, it will refill in time; and also you can use a boost nitro which depletes and can be refilled by getting it on the map. Game play 9/10 a very good experience especially in the Multiplayer part, varieties of cars with deferent special moves and stats. Replay Value 6/10 if you can access the online part the replay is high since you will encounter good and different players, but if you don't have then you'll get tired upon unlocking everything and watching the ending.

Overall, I think this game is great, especially if you can play online so much fun there. I don't recommend this if you can't play in Multiplayer, because you will get bored with it after unlocking everything, just rent it. Test first with your PSP if you can access a Hotspot. Its nice if you want a quick game then this is for you.
