Well, how to start?

I've played through and completed this game, and I can honestly say that i've never played a better WWII based shooter. Infact, in saying that. I don't think i've played a better shooter period.

I'm a fan of CoD on the PC, and that's held the crown of best WWII shooter for quite a while, and this surpasses it in many ways which aren't always obvious. There is of course the squad based combat, which gives you completly streamlined command of your squads (You have two squads of three, a fire team which is used to create suppressing fire, and an assault team that is used to flank/assault an enemy position). The command system is similar to that of Full Spectrum Warrior, but the AI tends to make more decisions than they do in Full Spectrum Warrior. It's not only the squad command that is done so well, the shooter aspects of the game are great too. Realistic damage means that it only takes a couple of shots to put an enemy down, but the same also goes for you. If you pop your head out to look at a machine gun nest, you'll be dead faster than you can say "Look, a machine gun nest.". This also makes the game quite difficult, while the AI is very smart, it's also a good shot. Sometimes you go down after catching a shot in the melon without even knowing who fired it.

Now, from squad command, I go onto graphics. While the graphics are not perfect, there are some excellent effects in the game. Explosions are implemented perfectly. Powerful, but not over the top. Animations are great. There's nothing better than watching your squad move onto a position, and firing on the move. Oh, and one great thing. They run at the same speed as you do. This annoys me quite a bit in most other games.

Now, if the other two things don't impress you, the sound will. Explosions sound bassy and crisp. The sounds themselves are almost perfect, i've heard a grenade going off, and I have also fired most of the weapons in this game, the sounds and recoil is done completly convincingly. Best simulation of those weapons yet.

Now, the downsides.

Textures are a little muddy, but I feel that adds to the atmosphere of the game. This is where the PC version will shine, I expect. Also, when a squad mate dies, he is back in the action on the next mission. A little unrealistic, but it'd be insanely hard if it wasn't done this way.

In conclusion, this game is perfect if your looking for a WWII shooter, or just a great shooter full stop. A completly immersive game that'll last you around 20 hours plus. (On authentic)

If you really want this game to shine, play on the hardest difficulty.
