This installment of the Spyro saga again places you in control of the child-friendly, purple dragon. Players of previous games will find a lot of things familiar. Collect gems, get various upgrades to your attacks, and unlock more levels.

One of the first noticable things about the game is the load times. This game takes longer than just about every other one I have played on a console. Such wasted time could have been overlooked had the game itself offered more than just rehashed material.

Collect Gems - A certain number for each level. The nice thing is that you get a type of 'score sheet' that shows your progress. If you aren't thorough in your search for them, it can get frustrating by the end of the game. Although you eventually have a way to point yourself to any gems you may have missed.

Various Upgrades - Other than fire breath, you gain electrical, freeze, and bubble breath by the end of the game. There is only so far that you can stretch these options, and the developers didn't come close to that limit.

'Unlock' More Levels - There was creativity in the level design and they did all look very nice. A farm scene and one in the clouds .. they were very different settings and very well made.

The sad thing is that I never felt challenged by the game. After amassing scores of extra lives, why did I care if I ever died? That's assuming I could actually find a way to die. Any run of the mill gamer would have no trouble completing the game with his eyes shut.

This title might be good to put a child of about ten years of age in front of but even he would lose interest fast. With so many other games in the same genre, it's hard to seriously recommed this game to anyone - unless they find it in a bargain bin and plan on giving it to a child under 12.

Stick with Spyro 2.
