First off, this is NOT a MMORPG. This is a multiplayer RPG having more in common with Diablo and the Norrath series on most consoles.
If you've ever played a battle.net game before you have essentially the same experience with multiplayer here except that deciding what game to join takes place within the game itself at a 'hub' location. A 'hub' is simply a graphical chatroom within the story progression where you can sell your items, talk with other players and form groups of up to 6 PC/NPCs to begin the next chapter of the story.
Once you've sold/grouped up you will then enter a Player vs. Environment gameplay that is similar to playing along with your friends in a 'Champions of Norrath' style game except that its a completely 3d world with a camera that follows along like in any online massivley multiplayer game.
So whats it like? Its a blast! If your looking for an MMORPG this is not it. If your looking for a great multiplayer RPG experience with thoughful and strategic PVP this is your game.
While the graphics are not state of the art some of the animation style accomplished by the graphics are unequaled in even the most modern of games. The designers show a great love in the crafting of the chapters in the games single/multiplayer areas with beautiful animations of growing vines and trunks as well as waterfalls and rivers of tar. You wont be blown away by the actual detail, but you will enjoy the little touches that are obviously crafted with love.
The sound is utilitarian which is what I would expect in a PVP game. You can't have lavish sounds and still listen for the audio cues you need to hear to interrupt enemy actions. This is very much a game of split second timing depending on which class you play. To this end while the sound is minimal it gets high scores from me for providing the nessessary feedback to let me know something behind me is about to cast a spell I might want to interrupt.
I think I already covered the gameplay but lets just say that once you have finished the story line, the PVP and collection of skills and items will keep you comming back for more, probably even through a few characters worth.
I Wholeheartedly recommend this game for any RPG fans who are looking for a Single Player or Multiplayer dungeon crawl A'la Diablo, Norrath, or Dungeon Siege.
