Anyone picking the box of the shelf may be excused for thinking that what they are about to purchase is a fully functioning game that has a deep story line, a customisable character, a usable fighting system and a world players can immerse themselves in. Unfortunately the blurb on the box in no way resembles the horror waiting for any poor unfortunate who parts with their money for what is an early beta of a game that they would like you to believe is finished.
The state of the game becomes obvious before you even set foot into the game world. At the character selection screen you find the appearance of your customisable character cannot be customized because the buttons for doing so don't work, not a great start.
So after you have selected a preset appearance you then move in to the game world, to be greeted by some dude who whispers (yes the npc's cannot be heard because of sound problems) something not very interesting and tells you to make you way to the nearest town. This wouldn't be too difficult if the map worked but alas this is dungeon lords so it don't.
I could go on and on but ill keep it short, this game is just not finished and i don't mean a few things missing either. The towns are devoid of life and the wilderness only has monsters that attack you in huge groups constantly. One example of the emptiness is "The hall of weapons" which is a huge empty room with one npc who proudly tells you "this is where we keep our best weapons" which may explain why they are having trouble and are under attack because there is nothing at all in there!!! the pubs and shops are the same with the pubs not even having tables and chairs and in one town the fireplace has the warming glow of a fire which would be nice had they remembered to put one in.
Probably the worst aspect of the game is the awful "combat system" which is just horrible, its not possible to aim your attacks so you just wave your sword around and hope for the best. I enabled the "targeting cone" in the options but in keeping with the rest of the game it didn't work.
A patch had recently been released for this but it breaks more then it fixes which is a shame because if they had taken the time to finish this game it could have been quite good.
I didn't go into the bad ai, the multiplayer horrors and a lot of other things because this review would have never ended.
It may be worth looking at the forums on the games site to see if they ever fix it and then buy the game but please don't encourage this sort of unfinished trash by buying it now.
